A Message From Our President

May 13, 2007

Dear Happy Time Squares:   Last evening's Happy Time Squares' "Oldies But Goodies" dance at Prairie Park was a "Peak" experience.   What a GRAND TIME we had, with a huge turn-out of both guests and members!!   We had 39 guests and 72 members present.   The total of 111 was just one dancer shy of comprising fourteen squares!   When surveyed, guests said they came to dance to Vic Perry's all-singing calls of the "Oldies AND Goodies"!   Frequently we enjoyed twelve and even thirteen squares on the floor, signaling peak interest in our calling program.

Judy Broers & Vernon Nelson cued Lines and Rounds, and guest Mike Hines cued one round, and so we had excellent cuing.

The old 45 records with the new CD diskettes used to decorate the hall made for some fun decorations, symbolizing old music with present grand times.

As usual, the wonderful food treats were a big hit with every person.

We had dancers from the our sister club, the Ottawa Promenaders, in addition to the Swinging Squares, Strato Jets, Wheathearts, Frontier Twirlers, Silver Shoes, Shawnee Swingers, Buckles & Bows, Lone Wranglers, Kuntry Kuzzins, Swingin Singles and Camping Squares -- twelve clubs in total.   David & Sherry Hubbard, Chairs of the 57th National Convention attended, as did Diane Dukat, NEKSDA Chair, and Mac McNall & Lavon Metzger, NEKSDA Publicity.

With regard to Volunteering to Help Greet at the KSDA State Convention in Salina, HTS has a total of five couples volunteering to help greet from 10:30 - 12:30 noon on Saturday, June 2.   We will submit that time to the Coordinators for their approval.   Thanks to the Bakers, Lucases, Zarembas and Alexanders for offering their help with ourselves.   HTS does need at least one more couple, and so please let us know if you can/will help.   Please either send an e-mail or call us at 841-3826.

Also, in regard to the KSDA State Convention, due to cancellations, HTS now has two extra rooms available for the Salina Convention which are now available.   If anyone would like to make a reservation with HTS at the Day's Inn in Salina, please contact Barbara Neff.

HTS has been invited to the wedding of Linda Decelles and Gary Wheeler, former SD Students from the January, '06 class, who will be married on Sunday, May 27, 2007 at 7 PM at St. Johns, 1234 Kentucky Street.   They have requested RSVP by May 11 at 785-841-9467 or at Linda@sunflower.com.   They will reside at 1909 E. 30th Street., Lawrence, KS 66046, and plan to be in our Fall '07 SD class.

Please inform all of your dancing friends of HTS' change of venue to the First Methodist West Campus for our next dance, Saturday, June 9 at 7:30 PM.   This is the new church just west on Highway 40 from the Highway 40 and Highway 10 Bypass interchange.   It is on the south side of Highway 40.   It is a beautiful location, and we expect to have a wonderful "Aloha Dance" in our aloha experience with this new church setting.   So, pick out your Hawaiian outfit and notify your friends.

Thank you!
