Travel Dance Report -- Frontier Twirlers

December 2, 2011

On a cool, drizzly, night, seventeen Happy Time Squares, traveled the dark and winding back roads of eastern Kansas to Osawatomie, to square dance with the Frontier Twirlers.  Their determination was rewarded with a far reaching variety of singing calls by the ever evolving talent of HTS' crooner, Wade Morrow.  His repertoire ranged from Five O'clock World to sing-a-long, Roll Out the Barrel, highlighted by the debut of Wade and daughter, Lydia, collaborating to a fun filled rendition of You Are My Sunshine. For his finale, Wade chose the always popular and patriotic number, God Bless the USA.  A fitting ending to a night dedicated to Pearl Harbor Day and music of the 40s.  Filling the void between tips, Ray Lemon and Vern Nelson, kept the night lively with their lines and rounds.  For those famished from the ardor of the trip and the high energy dancing, the Frontier Twirlers rewarded their guests with a buffet line worthy of a soldier returning from battle.  A cornucopia of delicious food including fried chicken, lasagna, Waldorf salad, coleslaw, deviled eggs, and delectable desserts to satisfy everyone's sweet tooth.  As the tired troops headed west, they were weary, but victorious in their battle to steal the Frontier Twirlers' banner.  At ease, troops!
