Special Holiday Event - 21 December 2009

For all Happy Time Squares and Friends

As you all know Happy Time Squares holds our square dance lessons at Centenary United Methodist Church, 4th & Elm in north Lawrence.   The lessons are each Monday night at 7:00 pm.

All of you may not know that Centenary Church is also host to The Festival of Nativities that is now in its fifteenth year of displaying and presenting to the surrounding area over three hundred nativities from all over the world.   This display is open to the public the three weekends before Christmas.

This year the church is offering our club a special showing on the 21st of December preceded by a soup supper at 5:30 p.m.

  • The menu is two kinds of soup with all the fixings, dessert and drinks all for $6.00 per person.
  • After supper we are invited to the upstairs, or Upper Room, to view the beautifully displayed nativities.
  • A craft room will also be open with many homemade items for sale.
  • You may take as long as you like to view the display.
  • It's an opportunity to join your fellow dancers for an evening of holiday fellowship.
  • Happy Time Stompers will entertain you.

Those of you that are coming just for the display we suggest around 6 pm and you may stay as long as you like.   For those taking part in the lessons they will start at the regular time, 7 pm.

If you plan to come and eat soup with us please let Dave and Barbara Neff know at 785-843-8966 or dbneff@sunflower.com, and also if you prefer optional vegetarian soup.   Remember this is open for all Happy Time Squares and friends.

The folks at Centenary UMC have been very supportive of our HTS Club by providing a place for lessons.   Let's return the generosity by attending this very special event.

The Lawrence Journal World recently carried an article about the Church's nativities: click here to view   (It should be noted that the LJW report of 100 nativity scenes is far short of the actual number of almost 400 on display.)
