Would you believe three (future) square dance callers graduated from Shamrock High School in St. Joseph, MO? Two in 1962; one in 1965, and none of the three realized the others were interested in square dance, much less in square dance calling? Or that each was a professional caller before realizing the other two also were calling?
Would you believe that one of those callers is our own Vic Perry?
Or Larry Liebig? Or Chris Wildhagen?
The three came together as the Shamrock Boys of Lafayette High for a special dance at St. James Lutheran Church in St. Joe on Friday, April 30.
Dancers were treated to continuous, alternating Mainstream / Plus tips. All three callers were on stage to kick off the dance, and then at the ending, but otherwise took turns calling tips for three and one-half hours!
We are not sure how many dancers were in attendance, the floor had room for a maximum of 15 squares, which was filled for almost every tip while other dancers lined perimeter chairs resting their feet. We did count 10 callers in attendance. It's always great to see callers on the dance floor!
Those HTS Members attending were: Frank & Betty Alexander, Carl & Mary K Bahnmaier, CJ & Pat Baker, Ace & Lareeda Hickey, Sam & Robin Hunsaker, Elsie Middleton, Wade, Laura & Lydia Morrow, Dave & Barbara Neff, Bob & Rosalee Rainbolt, Dave & Nancy Wickersheim, Ron & Linda Wright, and of course, Vic & Donna Perry.
We know that there were many HTS Members who could not attend due to the early start time and driving distance involved. But, there is good news. The Shamrock Boys will try to schedule another dance next year on the fifth Saturday of April so that more working folks will be able to attend. You will want to mark this tentative date on your 2011 calendar!
Thanks to our Travel Chairs, Ace & Lareeda Hickey for coordinating the trip up to this Fun Dance!
Caller Vic & Donna have extended their thanks and appreciation to HTS dancers for their strong support of this special dance Vic's letter.
There are a few photos in our Photo Album.
