July Dance Report

Fellow Members of Happy Time Squares-

Our July dance party, God Bless America, has been rated very successful, judging from many comments to effect "Wow, what a dance!"

We had 79 visitors join our 78 HTS members, for a total of 157 dancers.  As announced at the dance, this was an historic occasion as this is the first time our guests outnumbered members at a regular monthly dance!  Our two Plus tips had 10 and 11 squares, respectively.  Caller Vic called for a Grand March which resulted in 15 squares for the first Mainstream tip.  Vic reported 15 squares for the last tip of the evening, always a good sign that dancers are enjoying themselves.  In addition to dancers, our friends from Brandon Woods sat to watch the evening's dancing.  Our traditional "Happy Trails Circle" ended a fun dance.

Visiting clubs were:  Bluestem Twirlers, Buckles & Bows, Diamond Rounds, Docey Dandies, Friendship Rounds, Frontier Twirlers, Kuntry Kuzzins, Lone Wranglers, Ottawa Promenaders, Shawnee Swingers, Swingin' Singles, TNT, River City Dancers (Portland, OR).  Jim & Mary Jane Hunt, the couple from Portland, performed with River City Riders in Louisville, a very entertaining exhibition group.  The Hunts, who are RVing and dancing back from Louisville to home in Portland, were at Shawnee Swingers' Tom Roper dance on Friday evening and received so many invitations to join our dance on Saturday that they stayed in the area an extra day just to dance with us.

We had three clubs marching for banners:  Bluestem Twirlers and Docey Dandies retrieved their banners while Buckles & Bows stole ours.

Thank you to so many HTS members for making the dance such fun for so many of our members and guests.  Dave & Tonya Ketchum filled in for Larry & Alice DeMoss who were out of town. Joining them in Refreshments were Carol Bogner, Ron & Sue Wilson, and Jack & JoAnn Price.  Sam & Robin Hunsaker, Jeanne Bronoski, and Rosalee decorated the hall in red white and blue, and Sam provided the American flag.  Greeters were Robert Mugridge, Loren & Helen Cantrell, and Mark & Loretta Posch.  Helping CJ & Pat Baker with Setup/Cleanup were Frank & Betty Alexander, Dave & Barbara Neff, and Mike & Jeanne Bronoski.

Vic and callers/cuers provided a lively and fun evening of dancing.  Judy and Vernon took turns cuing a Line or Round between tips.  Vic turned one tip over to Sam Hunsaker and Kerry Wallace (Emporia).  Each did a fine job calling.

Be sure to check Lareeda's July calendar on our website!  Not only are there many dancing opportunities coming up soon (ice cream and cake, sundaes, rock & roll, national callers, your favorite caller), but another fun demonstration dance on the 23rd, and our 2nd Annual Summer Social on the 25th.  (You did sign Connie's registration form on Saturday night didn't you?)

Lost

Linda Wright reports losing a set of new earrings Saturday night.  They are red/black/yellow, club colors as those some other ladies wear.  If you find them, please let Linda or us know.

NTS Dance Camp, August 13-15

Judy Broers asked to have this information forwarded to HTS membership:  "If you haven't gotten a registration form for the NTS dance camp, it is on August 13-15.  The early registration deadline is July 15--Thursday.  Hope some of you can make it.  It's not just about line dancing, but all forms of dancing."

You can download the PDF flyer which includes information on the camp plus registration form here:   here:

We hope to CUNA Square soon!
