Fellow Members of Happy Time Squares-

On Saturday, June 12, 2010, 118 dancers attended our Roaring 20s dance party.  Forty-five guests from 14 clubs joined 73 HTS members for a fun evening.  In addition to dancing guests, we had guests from Brandon Woods as spectators.  Between tips, either Judy cued a line or Vernon a round.

Special guests Barbara Higgins-Dover and husband Dan spent the entire evening with us.  Barbara is author of an upcoming article on our club in the fall issue of Lawrence Magazine.  The magazine is due for publication prior to the start of our lessons, so hopefully the publicity will interest some new dancers.  Barbara is a contributing author to several magazines, and a new children's book Catfish Cookies.

Edie, Toni, and Rosalee set mood of the evening to the flapper era with stage and hall decorations.  Greeters were Elsie Middleton and Frank & Betty Alexander.  The refreshment tables and drinks were presented and maintained by Larry & Alice DeMoss, Linda Sue Kramer, Carol Schwarting, Ruth Mitchel, and Tonya Ketchum.  Setup and Cleanup coordinators were Jim Boehle, Lynn & Sherry Brun, Dave & Barbara Neff, and CJ & Pat Baker.

Many dancers were dressed in 1920s costumes and added to the fun.

The refreshment table included a surprise birthday cake for Rosalee, prepared by Tonya Ketchum.  During announcements, Rosalee was also presented a decorative sack of birthday cards.  Thanks to Betty Alexander for secretly cuing members for the card shower.

It is always neat to have callers in attendance and on the dance floor.  This month we had Chris Wildhagen, Diana Wagner, Wade Morrow, Sam Hunsaker.  Vic invited all four callers to split a couple of tips, much to the enjoyment of dancers.

Visiting clubs included:  Camping Squares, Chelsea Squares, Diamond Rounds, Docey Dandies, Frontier Twirlers, Ottawa Promenaders, Riverbend Promenaders, Salina Twirlers, Shawnee Swingers, Silver Dollars, Swingin' Singles, Swinging Squares, TNT, and Trick Tracks.

The Boots Bows & Barbeque table was "manned" by Toni Nelson, Dave & Barbara Neff, Lynn & Sherry Brun, Betty Lucas, and CJ & Pat Baker.

Roaring 20s was a successful and fun dance.  Thanks to all HTS members who gave their time, and thanks to Vic, Judy, and Vernon.
