Fellow members of Happy Time Squares,

A Great Party!

Boots, Bows & Barbeque - September 26

On Saturday, September 26, Happy Time Squares had a great party!   Over three hundred people came to enjoy our Boots, Bows and Barbeque.   It was an evening of fun and fellowship!

Ninety-eight members were joined by 215 guests.   Dancers from twenty-four square dance clubs joined us for the evening.   Dancers came from clubs in Kansas and the Heart of American Square Dance Federation.   Fourteen callers and cuers, along with their spouses, joined Vic & Donna, Judy & Gene, and Vernon & Toni for the evening.

Thanks to all of the members of Happy Time Squares who made our Boots, Bows and Barbeque such a success!   It was truly a complete club effort!   Members arrived early to help set up tables and chairs and to help decorate.   More came to help with the cooking.   A lot of members arrived with relish plates and desserts in hand.   Members cut and served desserts, set and replenished the food table, bussed tables, did dishes, worked the check-in tables, set up beverages, carved meat, and packaged or sold leftover meat.   Many stayed after the dance to take down tables, stack chairs, remove decorations, carry out trash and dry mop the floor.   We were amazed by the number of people willing to help and the way people just jumped in when they arrived and did whatever needed to be done!

The event was an outstanding team effort.   We couldn't have done it without all of you helping.   But we would be remiss if we did not recognize some individuals for their contributions.   Rosalee Rainbolt and her decorating committee did a fantastic job of carrying out our Boots, Bows & Barbeque theme.   Stan Zaremba was our head chef again this year, with his incomparable pork roast.   At Stan's side were Frank Alexander and a seasoned crew who provided the very popular homemade French Fries.   Lois Zaremba and Betty Alexander coordinated the setup of the serving tables and made sure the tables stayed full.   Larry and Alice DeMoss supervised the beverages for the evening.

Following a delicious dinner, the festivities began when Judy Broers led members and guests in line dancing.   This is always popular with guests.   Vernon Nelson then cued several rounds, with lots of dancers participating.

Our own Happy Time Stompers, cloggers "with attitude" [check the website for a picture of their shirts!] presented a program that delighted the crowd.   Laura Morrow led the group, which included Tonya Ketchum, Lydia Morrow, Toni Nelson, Rosalee Rainbolt, and Diana Wagner.

Vic Perry then invited members and guests to participate in an Introduction to Square Dancing.   We had so many individuals Vic had to form two circles.   Everyone thoroughly enjoyed a half hour of learning some basic square dance moves and dancing to a song featuring those moves.

We started our Mainstream dance with a Grand March, and nineteen squares danced the first tip.   Vic was in top form and everyone was smiling throughout the evening.   In between tips, Vernon cued rounds and Judy cued line dances.   Our caller and cuers are the best and their talents are most appreciated!

During announcements, HTS recognized Stan and Lois Zaremba for their outstanding contribution to our Boots, Bows & Barbeque with yellow mums, a Happy Face thank you balloon, and our heartfelt thanks.   HTS presented "Souper Salesman and Souper Saleswoman" awards to Lloyd Northrop, Toni Nelson and Frank Alexander for their excellent ticket sales.

Our wonderful party concluded with our traditional Happy Trails friendship circle.
