Members of Happy Time Squares:

Report:   Wild Wild West Dance, Saturday, August 8

Boots and saddles, western hats, and lots of western decorations turned the West Campus into a great western setting for our dance Saturday night.   Many dancers came in their boots and western attire, sporting sombreros and cowboy hats.   Hats off to the decorating committee for the marvelous atmosphere: Rosalee Rainbolt, Vernon & Toni Nelson and Gene & Judy Broers.   Thanks, too, to Mary K Bahnmaier for the red hats.   Check our website Photo Album for pictures.

Lloyd & Connie Northrop and Clarence & Sharon Kowalewski greeted guests as they arrived and thanked them as they departed.   Thank you, guys, for making people feel welcome.

Carole Bogner, Arliss Douglass, Rowena Horr, and Bob & Linn Suderman kept busy arranging the refreshment table and helping clean up afterward.   Dave and Tonya Ketchum substituted for Alice and Larry DeMoss in keeping beverages ready the warm evening had us drinking lots of water and iced tea.   Thanks, Dave and Tonya and all who helped with decorations.

We started mainstream dancing off with a Grand March that resulted in 10 squares.   Vic Perry incorporated a lot of western and country-western music into his program for the evening to carry out our theme.   Even though it's not a western song, we all enjoyed Vic's great version of Elvira.   Vic donned a cowboy hat for the last tip and incorporated two George Strait songs: Barbara's personal favorite, I Want to Dance With You, and Amarillo by Morning.   Great dance, Vic!

Judy Broers led lively line dances and Vernon Nelson cued rounds.   These provide great activities for people between tips.

We had 76 members and 54 guests for a total of 130 dancers! Everyone had a great time, even though it turned out to be a very warm evening.   The B-Tweens and Swangers, clubs from Kansas City, joined us for the evening.   Bill Reynolds (B-Tweens) called a lively and fun tip for us.   Topeka Swinging Squares stole our banner.

Thanks to Dave Wickersheim and Dale & Betty Guder for volunteering to sell Boots, Bows & Barbeque tickets.

We also appreciate people who come early to help set up and stay after the dance to help put things away and clean up.   We think our dances are great and could not do it without all of the people that are willing to help.   We also appreciate members who bring all that good food!

Finally, we thank every one who comes to dance! You are what makes the dances fun! Keep smiling and keep dancing.

Report:   Douglas County Fair Demonstration, Thursday August 6

Thirty-six members showed up at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Thursday evening to participate in a demonstration dance.   It was quite warm, but not unbearably so; and we usually had two or three squares continuously dancing.   We had a pretty large audience this year and we always enjoy this opportunity to expose people to square dancing.   Janet Mills, Bill Hampson, and Phil & Tammy Gabriel stopped by to say Hello and to watch.   Thanks to the dancers who came and gave a lively performance: Gary & Elois Allan, Carl & Mary K Bahnmaier, CJ & Pat Baker, Jim & Edie Boehle, Lynn & Sherry Brun, Loren & Helen Cantrell, Vera Cole, Larry & Alice DeMoss, Max Dougherty, Ernie & Jan Dyer, Ace & Lareeda Hickey, Darin & DeeAnn Howell, Dave & Barbara Neff, Lloyd & Connie Northrop, Donna Perry, Bob & Rosalee Rainbolt, Gary & Maria Sanden, Bill & Robin Wood, and Wade, Laura & Lydia Morrow.   Thank you, also, to Vic Perry, for donating his considerable talent and energy to the evening.

Help Wanted Demo Dance August 24

Happy Time Squares will give a demonstration dance at Vermont Towers (11th & Vermont) on August 24 at 7:00 p.m.   We will also be giving some history of and information about square dancing.   We hope we can get some new dancers from the residents there.   The dance will be for just one hour.   It will be indoors with air conditioning.   If you can help, please let us know by e-mail.

Revised Calendar and Coming Events

Ace and Lareeda have posted an updated August calendar to our website   Please check it out for fun and travel dances.   Remember that the dance to Kuntry Kuzzins Wednesday in Topeka is a fun dance, and not a travel dance.

Vernon Nelson will cue rounds at the Ottawa Promenaders dance Friday, August 14.   This dance is their Marshall Flippo special and is on a Friday night instead of their usual Saturday dance.

Check our website for the latest news, events and pictures.

And we DID find the keys!
